 
Level 1 Certificate in Preparing for work Qualification Aim: The level 1 Certificate in Preparing for Work aims:
- To provide learners with opportunities to improve upon their level of skills, knowledge and self-esteem in preparation for employment.
- To develop a learner's personal awareness of health and safety requirements in a work environment.
- To encourage learners to look ahead and action plan their career development.
- To help develop effective team working skills in a work environment.
This qualification is intended for use as an introduction programme especially suitable as a preparation for practical learning in workshops or in work placements.
Qualification Structure To achieve a full certificate in Preparation for Work, the learner must complete the following mandatory unit: Preparing for Work.
Progression The programme should complement, and allow progression to and from, other programmes of study, vocational training and into employment.

Progression route to level 2 qualifications would include:
- EDI Certificate in Moving and Handling
- EDI Certificate in Health and Safety in the Workplace

- EDI Certificate in Developing Personal Safety and Security Skills
Guided Learning Hours
It is recommended that approximately 30 guided learning hours (GLH) will provide a suitable course duration for an "average" learner at this level.
Guided learning hours include direct contact hours as well as other times when candidates are completing work that has been agreed with teachers.
Unit 1: Preparing for Work
About this unit
In this unit you will be introduced to the requirements of the work place. You will look at a range of work situations and the factors they must think about when choosing a work role.
You will develop knowledge of health and safety practices and how these are applied in a work situation.
The importance of effective team work will be stressed encouraging you to develop personal and social skills so increasing self confidence.
You will develop an understanding of how to identify and apply for training or work opportunities.
